Fireworks on campus upset Diamond

Some illegal fireworks were set off at 2121 h on campus last, about 200 m from the tower. CSU is investigating this incident and the university takes very seriously the safety of staff, students and, of course, the falcons. We don’t believe that this was a targeted attack on the falcons, nor that the students were involved.

There have been numerous other incidents in north Orange involving fireworks in recent weeks, so it’s a broader issue involving local council, police and community. It was reported to the police last night, of course.

We are monitoring the situation to see if the falcons return to the box (they have been seen and heard on the tower, so we know that they are okay).

We are looking also at improving security.

It was a very unfortunate, indeed ghastly, incident and everyone here is very upset.

So everything that can be done is being done.

If you haven’t seen it already, here is my video of the incident (three videos knitted together). Thanks.
