Server outage unplanned

Apologies for the website outage over the last 2-3 days. We’re in the middle of upgrading the website over to a new server structure and the very good people at Netregistry are completing the process. Finger-biting stuff but we’re in good hands!

FalconCam Project, and Beau & Swift, would like to wish all our viewers, supporters and providers a very Merry Christmas, a safe, happy and healthy season and looking forward to bringing these awesome peregrines to you through in to the New Year!

  1. A very happy Christmas to all of you as well! Many thanks for sharing these wonderful birds with us all. Migii looks adorable!

    1. Hi Clare,
Hope you had a good Xmas without too many storms over there; it’s not been a good English winter so far! To answer your question – yes, we keep the webcams running 24/7, all year round – they’re day/night, weather & “vandal (i.e. bird)”-proof and can easily handle continuous operation. We’re very lucky in that the local macropus peregrine sub-species doesn’t migrate, as other subspecies do, so we get the privilege of observing these amazing creatures all year round, although most action occurs between August and November, the local Australian breeding season. More testing is being done over the campus Xmas break to upgrade both the streaming server and the surveillance server so hopefully we can improve the reliability of the video streams soon. Stay tuned! Thanks again,
      Scott

  2. Hi, Scott

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I did have a good Christmas – the weather here has been, to say the least, strange! In between extreme winds and flooding it’s been unusually mild for the time of year and we’ve just had a beautiful sunny weekend here.

I’m delighted to hear that we’re going to be able to watch Swift and Beau all year round though it’s going to be difficult to keep up with them when the ospreys start returning in March. Do you see anything of Snow, or any of the other chicks from previous years? The photos of Cilla holding Snow remain my favourites!

A very happy New Year to you all – and don’t do anything I wouldn’t.

  3. I bet the beautiful kestrel on the ledge was unplanned as well – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked at the camera this morning (your time)! An absolutely stunning bird, just not the bird I was expecting.

  4. Have missed Swift and Beau for two and a half days now as no cam seems to be working.
Please can you advise when they might be back?

I am really enjoying following these birds and the camera quality, when it is working, is fantastic.

    Many thanks.
