First hatch and visit by Gimbir

The first egg hatched at or before 1253 h today. The hatchling is healthy and strong, holding its head up and calling for food within an hour.

Here is the video (edited) of the first views of the chick

The young male visited later in the afternoon and I think was a bit surprised to see that he had an offspring. He was gentle with the tiny nestling, but didn’t try to brood it. Diamond was very trusting to let him alone with such a very young chick. Here is the video of his first visit:

In the fading light both birds went hunting, but without success, so the youngster hasn’t had a feed yet, which is of some concern. Hopefully prey will arrive early in the morning.

There are no signs of holes (‘pips’) on the other two eggs yet, but there is still time. One chick may be enough for Gimbir to provide for in any case.
